On 30 May 2024, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv hosted the first seminar of the planned series on the use of artificial intelligence and neural networks. In the era of AI development and information warfare, such events are an important source of quality information for interested listeners.
Vitalii Kukharskyi, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Informatisation, welcomed the guests of the event: "Since the topic is new and relevant, I hope that it will develop more and more each time, and the exchange of experience will be very useful in any aspect. People at different levels are using the capabilities of artificial intelligence. I am sure that this exchange of experience will be very valuable for you, as it can be useful both in terms of research and innovation."
The invited guest and speaker of the seminar was Bohdan Pavlyshenko, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of System Design at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, author of research directly related to the field of artificial intelligence. Bohdan began his speech with the following words: "Today I would like to share some thoughts, some results about artificial intelligence technology and its use in various aspects, primarily to detect various types of manipulation." Afterwards, a short video was shown, which was filmed at one of the artificial intelligence conferences in New York. It showed the scale of development of the latest neural networks, including the world-famous android robot Sophia. Bohdan shared some of his own characteristics of AI, which he has discovered during his almost ten years of experience in the artificial intelligence industry and during many international conferences.
During the event, the speaker also analysed certain types of AI models, showed their work from both theoretical and practical aspects, discussed technological aspects of AI and how it can be used to detect manipulations, fakes, and optimisation in various fields, including business, financial trading, education, science, etc. The professor noted that all of them are important because they can be used to make forecasts of certain targeted changes. Not so long ago, in April 2021, Bohdan Pavlyshenko successfully defended his doctoral thesis, in which he studied in detail the specifics of artificial intelligence and its future prospects.
After the presentation, active discussions began, in particular, the following issues were considered in more detail:
What is the future of artificial intelligence and whether it can really replace a certain field of human professions, as AI is just a result of thinking?
Is it good that AI has gone beyond human capabilities?
The field of neural networks is very relevant in the modern world of technology, so it is important to be interested in innovations that are growing every year and posing new challenges to humanity. We are convinced that holding such scientific and practical workshops will not only attract more representatives of our university community to the use of innovative technologies and tools, but also build a powerful platform for the development of artificial intelligence, machine learning and neural networks at Lviv University.
