Medical AI: Research, Prototypes and Software Solutions for Healthcare

For us, medical AI is not “magic diagnostics”. It is engineering work with real processes: accounting, control, search, visual recognition, staff support and prototyping solutions that can be tested together with specialists.

Context

What “medical AI” means for the laboratory

The Artificial Intelligence Technology Laboratory at LNU works with healthcare scenarios where AI can help structure workflows, accelerate information search, reduce manual routine or test a new digital process model.

We treat such projects as research and engineering prototypes. Before practical use in a healthcare environment, every solution requires requirements analysis, testing, data-safety review and approval by responsible specialists.

Research directions

We see the strongest potential in applied tasks where the result and the quality of the system can be clearly measured.

  • object recognition in healthcare workflows
  • digital catalogues and instrument control
  • CRM systems for hospitals and rehabilitation centres
  • analytics for staff, wards and tasks
  • search across classifiers, directories and internal documents

Responsible approach

Medical AI solutions should be explainable, verifiable and aligned with staff workflows. We do not replace a clinician with an algorithm; we create tools that help with data, visual control, operational coordination and documentation.

Who can benefit

This research can be useful for hospitals, rehabilitation centres, university clinics, medical departments, non-profit initiatives and public or municipal institutions digitising healthcare workflows.

FAQ

Questions partners usually ask

Does the laboratory develop medical diagnostic systems?

The laboratory can research AI approaches for medical scenarios, but any diagnostic solution requires separate clinical validation, legal review, data protection and approval by responsible medical specialists.

What healthcare tasks can be discussed?

The best fit is a task with a clear process and data: object recognition, internal accounting, classifier search, department analytics, CRM, report automation or research prototypes.

Is non-commercial cooperation possible?

Yes. The laboratory is open to non-commercial and socially useful healthcare projects when there is a responsible partner, a clear goal, ethical data handling and a realistic result format.

Cooperation

Have a task in this direction?

The laboratory is ready to discuss research, prototypes and non-commercial projects with universities, laboratories, companies, hospitals and public institutions.
